Sparresholm Wagon Collection
In Denmark work wagons have been kown from the early stone age 5000 years ago. They had two massive wheels and were pulled by ox. 1600 years ago the Roman horse-carriages for work use came to the current Danish area. The wagons were developed into working wagons and were built by the peasants themselves, and later on they were manufactured by the local wheel men in the villages, as long as until after the Second World War. They were built without drawings and therefore became more and more different from one part of the country to the other. In the wagon collection there is a very large selection of wagons intended to very different use e.g. working wagon, carriages, hearses, excursion trains ”Kaffemøllen”. One of the rare wagons is a ballshaped mail wagon (copy). But there are many more types of wagons: tea wagon, tie wagon, master wagon,....come in and see. Besides there is a big exhibition of accessories to the wagons, saddles harnesses, tools and machines and a complete saddler workshop.
