Søstrup Co-operative Dairy...
When the dairy runs at full speed there are experiences for all senses. The heat in the boiler room, the steam in the hall, the scent of warm milk, the taste of the creamy, soft buttermilk, the sight and sound of the old machines, etc. Søstrup Co-operative Dairy was originally located on Søstrupvej 50 in Søstrup town. It was founded as a co-op in 1892. Today the building looks like it did after the rebuilding in 1929. It is partly a copy, however, with original granite boulders base, roof tile, ventilation, approach ramps – "the platforms" – in the back, the chimney, as well as the big window frames made of wrought iron. Parts of the 18-meter high chimney, the inner walls and partition walls have also been re-erected with stone from the original building, while the outer wall and the rafters are new.

The dairy has been furnished with machines, which have been collected from various parts in the country, since the original machines were sold when the dairy closed in 1968. The machines are driven by a steam engine, which gets pressure from the steam boiler fired up with wood. The dairy is fully functional. It manufactures butter and smoked cheese, which is sold in the Co-op.
Information about the operation schedule of the dairy is available at the ticket sales and can also be see in the Co-operative Village’s activity calendar.
