Glumsø Sawmill...
The sawmill was buit in 1890, but it was destroyed by a fire in 1916 and was rebuilt. It continued to operate until the end of the 1960ies.
8-10 men worked at the sawmill, a couple of them lived in a room near the steam boiler and they ate at the owner of the sawmill`s house. A steam whistle indicated the day`s rythm and work hours were from 7 a.m. To 5 o`clock p.m.
Among other things railway sleepers were made for DSB, and the rest of the beechwood was used for casc, (120009 a year). All wood waste was used in the steam boiler. The saw and the driving shaft are the original ones, which are driven by a tractor, but it will be replaced by a steam engine.
The saw can saw wood up to 10 meters long. At the moment the sawmill is processing the wood which will be used in the construction of Frederik Madsen`s Haulage Contractor Business and the garage plant.
